Notes thanks to Liz Carey-
Domaine des Vignes du Maynes in Cruzille could be considered an alternate universe to modern Burgundy.

Located in the Maconnais, a land of limestone rich soils, the combination of terroir, biodynamic farming since 1998 and the charismatic Julien Guillot produce wines of layered minerality with delicious freshness.

The estate consists of 10 hectares, 8 hectares surrounding Cruzille including the Clos which is made up of 2 hectares. Located at the northern end of the valley, the vineyards face due east, and benefit from the rising sun. On a recent walk through the vineyards with Julien, new plots are being planted and old ineffective vines are being replaced with selection massale (no clones are used).

Julien, in addition to the wines from the estate, also purchases organic fruit from growers in the surrounding area whom he has been working with for 15-20 years, including 90 year-old Gamay vines of various old varieties in Leynes, just south of Pouilly-Fuissé.

Grapes are hand harvested in small containers. Vinification occurs using natural yeasts and without sulphur, enzymes or any chemical addititions.
From a single parcel, 40-80 year old massale selection vines high on the slope. Thin clay topsoil, crystallized limestone and mineral sediments. Elevage 10 months old barrels, no sulfur additions.

Stone fruit and salinity here. Chiseled and bright. Green olive, lemon peel, beeswax. Harmonious and textured, purity pulsates. Salivating. Structured and with soul.
