Jessica has taken over just 2ha of the family estate; her father Jean-Jacques was also a vigneron – she has immediately started organic farming with the knowledge that this cuts yields but catapults quality.
In the vineyards she practices mechanical weeding, picking, all synthetic chemicals are of course prohibited. In order to ensure optimal quality of the harvest, it is done manually in 7kg boxes.
The Mâconnais can so often can come with cumbersome winemaking edifice of big extraction, lavish oak and dull fruit… the opposite dimensions are found in Litaud’s wines. These are stellar wines born of a measured, careful harvest (into 7kg boxes by hand!), a light, deft touch in winemaking, a 10-12 month spell on lees in older oak barrels and a short time in bottle before release. Beautiful wines. And very rare. And so, so good.
