João is part pioneer, part preservationist, part labourer and part historian. An irreverent man from the north of Portugal who moved with his wife Luísa to Penalva do Castelo in Dão in the early 1990s, his time managing Quinta da Boavista has been marked by great failures and great successes.
The Tretas encompasses 70% Jaen (aka Mencia), 20% Rufete and 10% Touriga Nacional fermented and aged in stainless steel for 9 months. A juicy little number with clean freshness, loads of strawberries, raspberries and morels, and a hint of dry tannins through a silky mouthfeel. Acidity is abundant for this medium-bodied red that finishes kinda crunchy, definitely mineral.
