This lieu-dit is one of the most beautiful spots in Anjou, and the parcel sits on top of the hill. Richard Leroy (the Batardières’ next door neighbour and mentor) makes his famous wine from this site – perhaps the best Chenin in the world! Based in Rablay-sur-Layon, this humble couple have quietly shot to stardom over the last few years, and the wines are now very difficult to find in any part of the world. With just over 4ha of certified biodynamic vineyards, they produce minuscule amounts of site specific wines to showcase their distinctive terroirs.
They have purposely kept their holdings small so that they can manage everything effectively and with care. They prefer to have complete control and to keep an eye on each individual aspect of growing and winemaking, to ensure quality is paramount. With their new underground cellar, the winemaking is clean, meticulous and accurate, with incredible attention to detail. In 2022, they began using two brand new 15hl Alsatian foudres for Les Cocus and Les Noëls de Montbenault. This has given these cuvées another dimension, and the results are fantastic.
