Thierry Allemand is a standout name in the Cornas appellation and a luminary among Northern Rhône red wine producers, renowned for producing one of France’s most floral, vibrant and lively Syrahs. His son, Théo Allemand, has been involved at the estate since 2015 and took over leadership in 2021. True to his father’s legacy, Théo has made minimal changes. But one exhausting new work item has been to scrape the soil around each of their 9,000 vines per hectare.
In the cellar, the wines undergo fermentation with 100% whole bunches, initially using carbonic maceration for two to three days before punching down. Malolactic fermentation occurs under the cap, and the wines are then matured in used barrels for one year. Following this period, the two cuvées are transferred to tanks to rest for an additional two to three months before bottling. Allemand’s winemaking style is ethereal, vibrant and bright, characterized by an energetic palate. The wines are crafted to be dense yet not overripened and are always expressive rather than overtly powerful.
